About E3 Washington
E3 Washington is an initiative for an inclusive process to develop a comprehensive statewide environmental education plan that optimizes environmental education for everyone who lives, learns, works, and plays in Washington State.
On September 22, 2006, the first Advisory Council Meeting and Kick-off Event was held at the Greater Tacoma Convention & Trade Center. Over 100 education, business, community, and government leaders attended this exciting day to:
-
advance academic performance;
-
create healthier communities; and
- support sustainable economic development.
EE weaves lifelong learning into our future...
Imagine E3 Washington as electronic circuitry or a biological web in the making.
It is the beginning of a new and exciting era where environmental education resources and needs are mapped and promoted and through which exchanges and support can flow efficiently and cooperatively. The circuitry or web includes new and expanded networks of education practitioners and decision-makers (local government, businesses, tribes, civic organizations, local-state-federal agencies, faith based communities, school/college leaders, and more). It facilitates action setting discussions, institution building and long-term commitments toward environmental literacy and sustainability. This is not only a dream, but is reality in the making through the many who are getting involved in E3 Washington.
Our Mission
Our Mission is to optimize environmental education for everyone who lives, learns, works, and plays in Washington Stateāto create thriving environments for schools, communities, and businesses.
Our Vision
Our Vision is to make environmental education the norm in Washington; to inspire educational opportunities, community behaviors, business practices, legislative policies, and other strategies that support sustainable and thriving environments for everyone in the state of Washington.
Why Do We Need a Plan?
EE is fundamental to creating thriving environments for all of Washington State schools, communities, and businesses. Currently the environmental education efforts in the state are under-funded, fragmented, disjointed and, in some cases, redundant. This initiative is designed to optimize environmental education for everyone in Washington State by linking and leveraging current resources, identifying areas that need improvement and/or development, and gaining increased commitment and funding to ensure success from both private and public entities.
How Will We Succeed?
We will succeed via state and local leadership summits for environmental education attended by key leaders in education, state, and community-based programs, agencies and businesses. These summits are action oriented strategy sessions designed to get input from leaders and constituents to ensure that environmental education meets the unique needs of schools (preK-20), communities, and businesses throughout the state. They also are designed as the first step in building environmental education leadership communities throughout the state at, and between, the state and local level to ensure plan implementation and success.
