“Spark a Reaction” @ Your Library

Teens are invited to “Spark a Reaction” 2014 Teen Summer Reading Program by the public libraries of Cowlitz County.  All events and the “Read for Fun & Prizes” program, are all open to all students entering 6th – 12th grades from any location, and no library cards are needed to participate. 


Tuesday, June 24, 3:30-4:30 p.m.  Missoula Children’s Theatre presents an Improv Workshop for grades 9-12, Longview Public Library (for this event ONLY, register by calling 360.575.8499)


Wednesday, June 25, 6 p.m.  Teen Summer Reading Kick-off!  Eat Free Pizza! Listen to hot mixes by DJ “SchatDaddy,” Brian Schatzel, Kelso Public Library.  (360.423.8110)


Tuesday, July 1, 6 p.m.  Catching Fire.  146 min., PG-13, 2013.  Free Popcorn, Kelso Public Library.   (360.423.8110)


Tuesday, July 8, 6 p.m.  Spark Plugs & Spokelights!   Longview Public Library west lawn (360.442.5301)  Automotive:  David Jennings, LCC, See an electric kit pickup!  Learn to change your headlights, Check sparkplug gap & test spark.  Bicycles:  Mark Plotkin, Canyonview Cyclery, Make LED spoke lights for night safety!  Lube, secure bolts, use a pro repair rack!  Bike maintenance tips!

Summer reading is about reading for fun!  Read manga at the beach, paperbacks while camping, or listen to an audiobook in the car!  Summer Readers become better students, and enjoy life-long reading success.  Sign up in the TeenSpace June 16 – July 31, anytime the library is open:  Monday-Wednesday, 10 a.m.–8 p.m. and Thursday-Friday, 10 a.m.–5 p.m.

Read 100 minutes to win your 1st prize=Free admission to Cowlitz Bears Baseball Game!

Read 200 minutes to win your 2nd prize=Your choice from the Imaginator!

Read 300 minutes to win a free book!=Your choice from the SuperReader bookshelf!

Read 400 minutes to get tickets for Grand Prizes.=Choose which of 4 prizes your ticket is for!

Write one sentence book reviews to win Lucky Prizes!

Grand Prize Winners are chosen at the Flash Mob on July 22.

These are Longview Public Library rules; check with your local library for their “fine print”!


Youth with fines on their library cards can read their fines off by earning Squirrel Scrip.  Every 10 minutes of reading will earn $1 in Squirrel Scrip which can be turned in at the Lower Floor Desk to erase fines.  Squirrel Scrip is only valid June 16 – July 31, and only applies to fines on youth cards.
