Plan a field trip for your school, daycare or activity group for fun, hands-on learning in the garden!

Children and youth preschool through high school engage all their senses through exploration and hands-on activities at our  gardens and farms.

Pre-K children taste herbs and flowers, touch the soft and the prickly, forage in the soil to discover compost critters and find the unexpected delights of gardening.

Elementary school groups visit two or three learning stations. Children learn and practice important garden activities such as making compost, planting, tending and harvesting crops, collecting seeds and other seasonal activities. Visit once or plan a series of visits to build upon gardening and environmental concepts throughout the year.

Middle and high school students can participate in programs at Rainier Beach Urban Farm & Wetlands. During the 2.5 hour field study, they will examine the health of Lake Washington Watershed by conducting water quality testing and soil analyses. Students will also learn about organic agriculture and animal husbandry as they harvest and taste some of the produce from our community farm.
