Position: Assistant or Associate Professor of HDNR and Director of the Wisconsin Center for Environmental Education (WCEE)
Position Description:
The College of Natural Resources (CNR) at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point is seeking a full time tenure track faculty member who will receive a 50% administrative release to serve as the Director for the Wisconsin Center for Environmental Education (WCEE). This position will be dedicated to teaching and advising undergraduate and graduate courses within the Environmental Education/Interpretation division of the Human Dimensions Discipline. The 50% release time for this position would allow teaching on a half time basis. A half time teaching appointment would involve teaching six credits each spring and fall semester and three credits during the summer. The specific courses to be taught will be determined in consultation with relevant faculty of the Human Dimensions Discipline. In general the courses will fall into the areas of environmental education, resource management, environmental science and/or environmental sustainability. The Wisconsin legislature created the WCEE, in 1991, with a mission to promote, develop and evaluate the environmental education in the K-12 schools of Wisconsin. The WCEE was placed in the CNR at UWSP. The Director of the WCEE is its primary administrative officer and would be responsible for providing leadership and administrative oversight related to the pursuit of its mission and associated operations. The Director facilitates the development and implementation of a long term WCEE vision and strategic plan. The Director is responsible for all budgeting and finances of the WCEE. The Director has oversight over all 20+ WCEE staff and adherence to associated UWSP personnel policies. The Director also serves as the primary public relations contact for the WCEE and associated stakeholders.
Qualifications:
Ph.D. Required. Degrees should be in the area of environmental/natural resources education, education sustainability or related disciplines. Preferred Qualifications: Demonstrated success or clear potential for succeeding in developing, teaching and evaluation of university level graduate and undergraduate courses; program leadership and administration; fundraising, grant writing, contract development and revenue generation; networking collaboration, capacity building and stakeholder relations; working with state and national organizations, and legislators; experience in developing, understanding and implementing relevant research. Experience working with teachers and school districts is desirable. Strong verbal and written communication skills and public relations skills are a plus.
