Description: AmeriCorps Position with South Sound GREEN
Position Dates: September 1, 2012- July 15, 2013
Hours: 40 hours/week
Monthly stipend: $1125 monthly living stipend (before taxes) plus a $5500 educational award at end of service.
Americorps service will include:
- Program outreach for volunteer recruitment, student opportunities and events
- Volunteer coordination and training
- Water quality monitoring and data management
- Student GREEN Congress and Summer Teacher Institute
- Nearshore/Marine field trips
- Restoration or riparian enhancement projects
Qualifications:
- Must be between the ages of 21 and 25 (by October 1, 2012)
- Must be willing to submit to a background check to work with children and volunteers
- Must have a valid Driver's License and safe driving record
- Must be eligible to apply for Americorps service (www.americorps.gov)
Preferred experience & skills include:
- Excellent communication and organizational skills with ability to multi-task
- Interest in environmental education, citizen science, and field investigations specifically as related to water quality, riparian habitat, and nearshore-marine education.
- Experience working with students, teachers, and community volunteers.
- Some college preferred with a focus on environmental science and/or education
- Strong computer, technology, marketing and outreach skills
