Celebrate How You Do Farm to School…sign up today!

What is Taste Washington Day?
On Wednesday, Oct. 4th (or another day in October), schools around the state serve meals from food grown on local farms or produced in Washington, while students learn about and celebrate the farms that feed us through activities, promotions, and events. Taste Washington Day, always on the first Wednesday of October, is a celebration of your Farm to School efforts. Plus, October is National Farm to School Month! That means it is a great time to highlight your farm to school activities!

How can your school district participate this year?

  • Sign up your district online

  • Plan to serve a lunch with local ingredients on October 4th (or another day during October Farm to School Month).

    • WSDA’s Farm to School team is happy to help match your school with participating farms and facilitate purchasing, or help to identify Washington-grown foods you may already be serving. See the extensive resources below.

  • o   Do a Washington Apple Crunch

o   Partner with teachers or school gardeners

o   Invite farmers to the cafeteria

o   Have a local Future Farmers of America chapter give a presentation, or help students with a tasting of Washington-grown produce

  • Display farm posters and special salad bar signs

  • Celebrate with activities beyond lunch

Schools across the state have many creative and often simple additional ways to celebrate Taste Washington Day. For example:

  • Share your activities and promotions on social media with the #TasteWADay and #WAfarmtoschool hashtags
