Explore the Southern Cheney-Palouse Scabland Tract of the Lower Snake River Area with Ice Age Floods expert, Gary Kleinknecht. On this trip you will see Old Maid Coulee, Staircase Rapids, Palouse Falls, Devil's Canyon, and so much more! Remember to meet at the REACH Museum

Transportation during the tour will be provided. Don’t worry about packing your lunch. Local restaurant, Fat Olives will have a lunch for all participants.

Richland Library Talk: The Coyote Canyon Mammoth

Location: Richland Public Library

Gary Kleinknecht will give a presentation about the Coyote Canyon Mammoth site. Gary is a retired high school teacher and the current Education and Outreach Director for MCBONES, the nonprofit that oversees the mammoth site. His powerpoint will include the mammoth's discovery and the rare opportunity to study our region's past as the bones are excavated. He will also discuss this mamoth's death and burial, the relationship between mammoths and elephants, and a study, which sheds light on eastern Washington's environmental conditions over the past 20,000 years.

Little Exploreres: Rocks tell a Story

Little Explorers will continue to be in the same format during the summer. There will not be any separate older kid activities but siblings are welcome to come!

Preschoolers, siblings, and parents will learn all about rocks! There will be time to read stories, sing songs, create awesome crafts, and explore the museum grounds looking at all sorts of different rocks native to our area.

Discover the REACH Insects

Discover the REACH area quarterly events held throughout 2018. The third session focuses on Insects! Learn all about butterflies, moths, arthropods, and aquatic invertebrates from local experts. Make sure you stop by to see the newest exhibit, Fanciful Flight: Butterflies & Moths from the Dr. Rod Coler Collection. Bring the whole family for fun hands-on activities!

Renowned author, Dennis Dauble will present Tales of Natural History and Adventure on the Columbia River. There will be readings of Native American myth, explorer journals, and early 19th century angling lore. Come find out what a “swallowing monster’s pet” is!
